How do you prepare for Breast Reduction Surgery?

Your plastic surgeon will likely:

• Look at your medical history and overall health

• Take photographs of your breasts for your  medical record

During the procedure

  • Incisions made around nipple and areola to remove excess tissue, fat and skin
  • Reshapes the breast and resets the nipple/areola
  • Liposuction to remove excess fat in the breasts

After the procedure

Immediately after the breast reduction surgery:

• The breasts are covered with bandages and a surgical bra to hold them in place

For the first days or week after surgery:

• The breasts might feel tender

• The breasts might be swollen and bruised

• A surgical bra to support

After that:

• Limit physical activity for 4 to 6 weeks

• Wear an approved surgical bra

Later months:

Scarring fades over time but does not disappear
